Create Classroom Quizzes with Socrative

Socrative LogoWith the proliferation of computers and mobile devices in classrooms in the last few years, there are lots of opportunities to make use of these technologies to add interactive elements to your teaching. One tool that aims to make this process easy for almost any classroom is Socrative.

Using this free application, teachers can create a variety of types of questions and quizzes that students can then answer from their own device during class. From the teacher’s dashboard, you can create your own quiz from scratch by writing multiple choice, true/false, or short answer questions. Quizzes can involve multiple questions in a combination of different types, adding flexibility. If you want a quicker option, you can instead opt for the Quick Question or Space Race options. Quick Questions are just what they sound like: brief questions that can help teachers to get quick data on where students are in their learning. The Space Race is a team-based option where students compete in teams to move their rocket across the screen faster than other teams. This last option is definitely geared towards younger students, but adds a fun element to the tool. Regardless of the type of quiz you create, students access it using the classroom code found on the teacher’s dashboard and can respond using virtually any type of device either through the browser or using one of Socrative’s apps.

Beyond the ease with which quizzes can be created and taken, one of the best features of Socrative is the quick data that teachers can get from the students’ answers. This data can be used to track student achievement or it can be shared with the class to anonymously show how students have answered the questions. In addition, Socrative offers a lot of support for new users, including videos, a user guide, and training pack documents, which makes it easy to get started with integrating it into your curriculum. No matter what type of teaching you do, Socrative is a nice tool for bringing interactive quizzes into the classroom.
