Create and Share Lists with List.ly

List.ly logoThere is no need to look past Buzzfeed to know that lists are currently all the rage online. List.ly is a tool that helps you to make and share your own lists. Available in both free and pro versions, this tool allows you to create lists and then have others add to the list. Items are added to the list by either manually typing the content or by entering a URL from which content can be pulled. For example, you can create a list of books using Amazon URLs to automatically pull in titles and images. Another option is to add descriptions and tags. Within these parameters, users have a number of additional customization options, such as the ability to set how the lists are sorted, to moderate contributions, and to decide whether contributors can “dislike” content. The list content can also be displayed in a variety of styles from a very basic text format to a highly visual “magazine” style. A¬†headline image can also be added to your list to make it even more visually engaging.

Once you are happy with your list, you can embed it on other websites in a variety of formats using the automatically generated iframe code or share the list automatically on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn or via email. Individuals who use your list can add to it or share it themselves. For long lists, they can also search through the contents to find specific materials. While List.ly is a fairly basic tool, it offers useful functionality for creating and sharing lists with your audience and a great way to garner feedback from others. You can also access additional features by going Pro, which opens up other looks, adds more advanced moderation tools, and offers the option to keep lists private. Overall, if you find yourself making lists frequently, List.ly is worth trying.
