Make Virtual Sand Paintings With Thisissand

LogoIf you have ever enjoyed making sand paintings, you should try Thisissand. Available for both browsers and iOS devices, this app gives you the ability to create sand paintings limited only by your imagination without the mess of real sand. The finished products range from simple to elaborate and the searchable gallery will give you plenty of inspiration for what you can do with this app.

Creating art is easy with this tool. In the browser version, you can arrange sand by simply navigating your cursor to the desired part of the screen and then either clicking once to drop a small amount of sand or double clicking to drop a continual stream of sand. While you are dropping sand, you can move your cursor to change where the sand falls. The sand can be virtually any color you can imagine and switching colors is as simple as pressing C and then clicking on the desired shade. The app uses a similar set of controls though you touch the screen and press rather than using a mouse in the app. Switching colors in the app is made even easier using the color wheel that appears in the upper right corner of the screen. In both versions, the tool comes complete with the sound of falling sand, which offers a relaxing white noise while you create your designs, and can be turned off if you prefer silence.

Finished designs can be either captured via a screenshot or shared on the Thisissand gallery. However, if you opt to share your piece on the gallery, it is important to familiarize yourself with the terms of agreement because Thisissand reserves all rights in submitted works. This is a fun, free app for creating sand paintings.
