Search Privately Using Your Preferred Search Engine With Disconnect Search

DisconnectEarlier this week I wrote about the Disconnect browser extension that protects your privacy as you use the internet; but even if you use this or another similar privacy tool, search engines will still collect information about the searches that you run. Disconnect has created a new tool that brings this same level of privacy to online searches.

Disconnect SearchWith this new Disconnect Search browser extension, you can use Google, Bing, Yahoo, Blekko and Duck Duck Go privately. To accomplish this, you simply click on the Disconnect Search icon in the browser bar and select your preferred search engine from the options. Then enter your search terms in the search box. Disconnect Search will then run the search, but will prevent the search engines and the sites you click on from collecting and storing your search terms. Instead, the search terms will be submitted from Disconnect. They will also encrypt your searches so that your ISP can’t access them. Disconnect itself doesn’t log personal information about its users, making the overall process much more private than the average online search. In addition, they have a feature that is currently still in beta which allows you to take advantage of these same privacy features when you run searches directly on the search engines’ homepage. Enabling this new feature is as simple as checking the box in the Disconnect Search menu. Learn more about this new tool in the video below.
