Whemsy – A New App For Tracking Your Habits

WhemsyTracking your habits can be a good way of becoming more aware of them and fostering new, better habits and activities. I’ve talked about some apps that can help with this in my post on apps to help you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, but I have found another new one that looks promising. Whemsy lets you set goals for yourself by either searching through the app’s list of existing habits or by adding your own customized goal if you can’t find what you are looking for. Habits can be daily activities or one time events. Many of the habits that Whemsy has created include advice on how to integrate the activity into your life and information on the advantages of the activity to provide motivation. For example, the “Get Enough Sleep” habit tells you how sleep makes you healthier and gives tips for how to fit it into your schedule. Tracking your accomplishments is as simple as touching the habit and then touching a single button. Two clicks is all that is required. Every time you track an accomplishment, you earn points that fall into different categories depending on the type of habit practiced. You can also share your accomplishments with friends via Facebook or with other members of the Whemsy community.

Whemsy is a very useable, free app for those who want to track and change their habits. It employs some elements of competition and gamification, but can also be used without those elements by those who aren’t motivated by points or competition. It has a nice, cute design that makes it easy to keep coming back to the app on a daily basis. While it won’t help you change all of your habits overnight, it is worth a try for those working on changing their habits.
